Abstract
Canada faces many challenges to its economic growth, stemming from weakening resource exports, global free trade, low cost imports and rising internal costs. Technological entrepreneurship is a vital but underdeveloped contributor to economic growth, ceating new businesses and global competitiveness.
Recognizing this, and building on a background report published in 1997, the Canadian Academy of Engineering has undertaken a review of technological entrepreneurship in Canada. The Academy challenges all sectors of society to expand this important activity for the benefit of Canada.
Recommended actions involve the academic, business and engineering communities. In particular, the Academy proposes the formation of a National Steering Committee on Technological Entrepreneurship (NASCENT) to define further and implement priorities, policies and programs that can enhance technological entrepreneurship in Canada.
