Wealth through Technological Entrepreneurship

Purpose and Objectives of this Report

The purpose of this report is to alert all Canadians to the importance of technological entrepreneurship, and to urge all sectors of society to collaborate in the fostering and development of this potent resource. It also provides a convenient reference on the issues and opportunities for engineers in advancing the activity level and economic contribution of technological entrepreneurship in Canada and seeks to engage the active interest and participation of others.

While the Academy has reflected extensively on these matters, it concludes that this report is only one step in an ongoing endeavour that has a potential to provide major benefits over time. Other engineering, technical and business organizations, institutions, governments and Canadians in general need to become actively involved in resolving problems, changing attitudes and encouraging initiative and innovation.

Those others who join in the cooperative effort proposed in this report will be expected to recommend changes and present their own ideas for effective resolution of the challenges that currently inhibit technology-based entrepreneurial growth in Canada. Their practical experience, and their participation in reaching the shared objectives, will ensure the success of this economically significant undertaking.
